For the 90th time last night Hollywood’s finest were honoured by Mr. Oscar himself in a 15 hour TV event. Ok it just felt like 15 hours, but I thought since I watched from beginning to end I might as well get a blog post out of it. This was further instigated by the BANGIN’ red carpet this year, so without further a due, here are my top ten Oscar looks from last night.
This was inevitable because I have a deep rooted obsession and she obviously always shows up slayin’. I truly think she could’ve showed up in a burlap sack and I would’ve put her on this list. Some controversy on the sleeve, but I think it would be boring and prom dress-y without it, and if theres anytime to step out it would be the oscars (not that I’m speaking from experience but STILL).
9. Sandra Bullock
I surprised myself with this one because I am almost never on board for a halter. But Sandra Bullock and Louis Vuitton…I think I just blacked out. If I look like this at 53, WATCH OUT WORLD.
8. Chelsea Peretti and Jordan Peele
This pick is heavily biased by the fact that Get Out may be my favourite movie of all time. However, I’m also using it as proof that VELVET IS NOT DEAD. Everyone keeps trying to throw that at me, but it was all over the red carpet and I was living for it. It’s so simple and the pick up is beautiful, I rest my case. Jordan looks ‘ight too.
7. Armie Hammer I repeat, VELVET LIVES. I also get incredible amusement from the fact that his name is dangerously close to Arm & Hammer. Great look nonetheless Mr. Baking Soda.
6. Lupita Nyong’o
If Oscar was a female I’m pretty sure it would look like this. I am all for STEPPING-THE-FRICK-OUT, and so this look is everything to me. The slit, the shoulder, the gathering at the waste, I’m sold, incredible work.
5. Allison Janney
Allison Janney low key knew she won before even got in the dang theatre and I LOVE IT. Aside from her immaculate name and the fact that she’s literally glowing, I’m obsessed with this dress. The sleeves and the neckline are iconic, someone get this woman an award.
4. Gal Gadot
Can we just. If the dress wasn’t enough Gal Gadot herself is a goddess. Also, a moment of silence for that NECKLACE.
3. Mahershala Ali
Further evidence that VELVET IS ALIVE AND WELL. Plus the colour ofo this jacket is so interesting and I’m high-key obsessed with it. Keep up the great work.
2. Gina Rodriguez
I want Gina to be my fairy godmother in this number. It’s simple and yet exciting and I love that she has the gown silhouette while still showing off her figure. It’s a Hannah-Montana-best-of-both-worlds-dream-come-true. Plus the nude colour with her skin tone is IMMACULATE. Ok I’ll stop yelling.
1. Emma Stone
Ya know how the saying goes, “can’t go wrong in Louis Vuitton.” Ok I just made that up but I’m RIGHT. The red with her hair I think I died. I love a good pant suit and this one is just different enough to slay.
Bonus: Jennifer Lawrence
Lol you thought I was going to obey the rules. Here’s my bonus pick because I just couldn’t choose. LOOK AT IT. It’s a disco ball dream and she looks perfect ok case closed.
And there you have it, my favourite looks from this years event. I debated doing a worst dressed section but I realized no one cares, and everyone can wear WHATEVER THEY WANT. So I skipped the negativity. Plus the incredible looks were abundant.
